An old cultured form that grows fairly slowly to form a densely branched tree. Conical in its early years, it later becomes ovoid to rounded. Height 10 - 12 m. Low-branched trees are mostly found. With age the branches start to hang down, giving the tree an eventual width of approx. 10 m. The leaves are a fresh colour of green in the spring, are narrower than those of the species and are sometimes deeply lobed (up to the main vein). 'Ordinary' Carpinus leaves appear regularly on young twigs in the shady heart of the foliage. The tree easily reverts to the normal leaf shape. Winter hardiness zone: 5a
