Castanea sativa 'Glabra' is an old cultivated type of Castanea sativa. It grows to be a large tree with a broad, irregular crown that attains approx. 30 m in height and 25 m in width. The elongated leaves are dark green and are remarkable for their glossiness. The bare underside of the leaf is also glossy. The leaves are generally somewhat larger and sturdier than those of the species and have a clearly serrated edge. The flowers and fruit are identical to those of the species.
