Castanea sativa 'Vincent van Gogh' is a cultivar discovered by accident among seedlings. It was found in Zundert (Netherlands), the birthplace of Vincent van Gogh. Its height depends on the height of graft and varies between 3.5 and 4 m. Up to the present no larger specimens have been found. The crown is spherical and very compact. The flowers are the same as those of the species. Fruit and leaves are smaller. The leaves are reddish-purple when they emerge in the spring and in summer growth. Winter hardiness zone: 6a
