Cephalotaxus harringtonii 'Fastigiata' is a striking conifer that superficially resembles a coarse columnar Taxus. The plant does not branch strongly and the main branches always grow almost vertically upwards. On the branches, the needles are spirally planted diagonally upwards. The needles vary in length and the twigs have alternating sections of longer and shorter needles. This gives the twigs of 'Fastigiata' a typical "wavy" appearance. Cephalotaxus tolerates shade, but the plant also does well in partial or full sun. Provided the soil is nutritious and sufficiently moist, but permeable. If the soil is too poor, too dry or too wet, the shiny dark green needles will turn pale and the plant will lose its healthy appearance.
