Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Wisselii' is a stately, pyramidal growing conifer that grows 20 - 25 m high. Like the species C. lawsoniana, the twigs are brown and the bark is reddish-brown. 'Wisselii' is rather coarsely branched and the ends of the twigs are always almost vertically erect, which is characteristic of this cultivar. The foliage is also coarser than in most other cultivars of C. lawsoniana, but the dense branching gives the tree a full appearance. The scales are a slightly glossy dark green and contribute greatly to the stately appearance of the tree. Chamaecyparis likes a well-drained, humous soil and poorly tolerates chalky soil.
This cultivar was created in 1893 at the nursery of F. van der Wissel in Epe. Hardiness zone: 6b
