Small, round to broadly vase-shaped tree with a somewhat irregular growth pattern, up to about 6 m. The branches wind and turn oddly. The soft bark is smooth and grey. The leaves are glossy dark green and have a rather less undulate margin than typical of the species. They measure 4 - 10 cm. The leaf becomes more matt green later in summer. The blossom and fruits are the same as other F. sylvatica: inconspicuous flower catkins followed by 1 - 2 cm nuts in cupules covered with brush-like spines. Suitable as solitary, park tree or in gardens. Prefers well-drained, humic soil, not too wet. Moderately wind resistant. Was selected from a wild beech population.
