Curious small tree with a narrow vase-shaped habit reaching about 7 m in height. Originated as a grafting bastard when Jean Louis Adam grafted a graft of Cytisus purpureus onto a rootstock of Laburnum anagyroides. From the graft grew a branch that showed the flowers of both plants, i.e. both the light purple flowers of Cytisus and the yellow flowers of Laburnum. The branch also formed flowers that were intermediate between the two parents. After the tree was brought into cultivation, it came to light that it tends to "revert" to the appearance of either parent. In terms of habit, L. adamii most closely resembles Laburnum anagyroides. Grows in almost all soils and tolerates lime. Is not very wind resistant due to poor anchoring.

Происхождение
Curieuze kleine boom met een smal vaasvormige habitus tot circa 7 m hoogte. Ontstond als entbastaard toen Jean Louis Adam een ent van Cytisus purpureus op een onderstam van Laburnum anagyroides entte. Uit de ent groeide een tak die de bloemen van beide planten toonde, dus zowel de lichtpurperen bloemen van de Cytisus als de gele bloemen van de Laburnum. Ook vormde de tak bloemen die intermediair waren tussen beide ouders. Nadat de boom in cultuur was gebracht kwam aan het licht dat ze de neiging heeft “terug te lopen” naar de verschijningsvorm van één van beide ouders. Qua habitus lijkt L. adamii het meest op Laburnum anagyroides. Groeit op vrijwel alle gronden en verdraagt kalk. Is vanwege een minder goede verankering niet erg windbestendig.
