Very much resembles the species. It is distinguished by a somewhat slower rate of growth and its speckled leaves. The crown starts off narrowly pyramidal with an ascending, vertical trunk. At a later stage the crown becomes broad pyramidal. Height 12 - 17 m. The grey trunk has deep grooves. Older branches develop corky wings. The 5-lobed (sometimes 7-lobed) leaves are deeply incised. When the leaves first appear they are speckled a rosy-yellow. In the summer the leaves are green with irregular creamy-yellow spots. The autumn colour is rose to red. The speckled leaves form an attractive contrast to this. The large fruit capsules, measuring approx. 3 cm, appear following the unremarkable flowering. They remain hanging in the tree for a long time. Winter hardiness zone: 5b
