Liquidambar styraciflua 'Festival' bears a strong resemblance to the species but is distinguished by its pyramidal, narrower crown shape that remains so. 'Festival' grows considerably faster than the species, especially in its younger years. Height 20 - 25 m. Older branches develop thick grey corky wings. The 5-lobed (sometimes 7-lobed) leaves are deeply incised. The autumn colour passes from yellow and orange to reddish-purple. When the tree is planted on a humid site the leaves turn a more intense shade of red. Fruit capsules, that remain hanging in the tree for a long time, appear after the unremarkable flowering. Is not resistant to long-lasting dry periods. Winter hardiness zone: 5b
