Small to medium-size tree with distinctly upright ovoid crown but rather irregular, wide ovoid crown. The year-old twigs are purplish brown. The sprouting leaf is purple-coloured bronze-brown turning dark green in summer. In early to mid-May the purple lilac-pink flowers open from red buds. They are followed by strikingly large crab apples. These are 3 to 3.5 cm, and up to 4 cm in young trees. The apples are purplish red on orange-yellow and waxy. This cultivar originated as a seedling of M. ‘Eleyi’. It is spectacular due to the lovely large fruits, but prone to scab.
