Small tree with oval crown growing to 6 m tall. The lateral branches are quite horizontal but the crown stays relatively narrow due to good branching. The sprouting leaf is bright green and turns dark green later in the season. In May, white flowers emerge from pale pink buds. The fragrant flowers are approx. 3.5 cm and are followed by approx. 1.2 cm, red to purple-red crab apples. SUGAR TYME was introduced by Lake County Nursery in 1988 and is highly valued in the USA for its rich blossom and excellent fruit yield. Only slightly susceptible to scab.
