Malus 'Van Eseltine' is a fairly old (1942) American cultivar. The tree has a narrow crown that later becomes broad and vase-shaped. Height approx. 6 m. The leaves are dark green. The semi-double flowers are deep pink and very large, Ø 4 - 5 cm, and emerge in early or mid-May. The unremarkable fruits are yellowish-green and 1.5 - 2 cm in diameter. Can be used in parks, streets and gardens. It makes heavy demands on the soil as regards moisture supply and fertility. Sensitive to sea wind. Winter hardiness zone: 4
