A densely branched, slow-growing weeping shape, with the main trunk usually being trained upwards to achieve a certain height. From the point where support is lacking, the main branch hangs down sharply. All lateral branches also hang down sharply, close up against the trunk. At a more mature age, the lateral branches even grow along the ground, creating a very characteristic shape. Width approx. 2 – 2.5 m. 'Inversa' can also be cultivated without support, then the plant takes on a creeping manner of growth. This makes it suitable also for large rock gardens. The female flowers are light pink: the red male flowers turn yellow from the pollen. The hanging cones are 10 - 15 cm long and about 3 - 4 cm wide. The tree does not grow well in sunny, dry sites. Tolerates pruning well.
