'Schneider's Späte Knorpelkirsche' is a sweet cherry with a semi-open to open crown of 6-8 m in height. The crown is broad ovoid to oval and slightly irregular in shape. The tree blooms around mid-April to early May with white blossoms and is not self-pollinating. For good fruit bearing, therefore, another cherry variety is needed. Preferably, 'Bigarreau Napoléon' or 'Varik Black' is used for this. The cherries of 'Schneider's Späte Knorpelkirsche' are ready for picking around mid-July. They are large and shiny dark red. The flesh is quite hard, which has earned the tree the nickname "knapkers". However, the cherries taste very pleasantly sweet and are very suitable for direct consumption. This variety is sometimes confused with 'Hedelfinger Riesenkirsche', but differs from it in that the fruits always have a small tip at the bottom and are larger.
