A striking, small tree which can best be described as a ‘dwarf’ version of ‘Fastigiata’. Grows significantly more slowly than the species and remains smaller. It is naturally a columnar shrub of around 2 m, but if it is grafted onto a standard, it can grow into a 4 to 5 m tall tree. The branches grow straight up forming a closed columnar shape which later becomes narrow pyramidal. The bark, twigs, leaves, blossom and fruit are like the species. Its modest size and good crown shape make ‘Menhir’ very suitable for narrow streets and small gardens.
