Salix alba 'Liempde' is a male cultivar with a vertical stem and straight, vertical side branches, creating a fairly narrow, pyramidal crown. Height 20 - 25 m, significantly shorter when used as pollard willow. The trunk has deep, corky grooves and the twigs are very bendable. The lanceolate leaves are dark green, have silvery hair and are somewhat larger than those of the species. The yellow catkins appear at the same time as the leaves. 'Liempde' is one of the most commonly planted white willows in the Netherlands. Reasonably resistant to watermark disease. Winter-hardiness zone: 4
