Medium-size tree with an oval crown to approx. 10 m tall and 8 m wide. The young twigs are brown to reddish brown and flaking after several years like the bark of Prunus serrula. Old bark is dark grey-brown and typically covered with horizontal lenticels. The broad oval leaves are dark green. Around late June to mid-July large dense panicles of yellow-white flowers appear. The flowers have a strong fragrance reminiscent of privet. The flowers are followed by dark brown, woody capsules. Selected by Leonard Slater from a group of seedlings at Sheridan Nurseries in Canada and differs from the species by its distinctly upright growth pattern and eventually narrower crown. This lilac prefers a warm, sunny site and grows in any soil provided it is not too wet. Also tolerates lime.
