Ulmus hollandica 'Vegeta' forms an oval, later broad pyramidal crown and has several remarkably long lateral branches that grow from low down to high up in the crown. Later they spread, even overhang. This leads to more or less wild growth requiring maintenance pruning. Height 30 - 35 m. The grey bark splits along its length. The twigs are light brown and the winter buds a remarkable reddish-brown. The light green leaves measure 8 - 15 cm. Sensitive to Dutch elm disease. Winter hardiness zone: 5a
