Fast-growing tree with dense pyramidal crown, to approx. 25 m tall by 10 m spread. Bark is brown-grey, flaking in rectangular plates when mature. Leaves are glossy dark green and of average size. Has little autumn colour. Blossoms in clusters of light green flowers, followed by seeds enclosed in wings. It originated at the University of Wisconsin from a cross between Ulmus japonica and Ulmus pumila: high resistance to Dutch elm disease. Also good tolerance to wind. When young it needs regular support pruning, although it can then grow into a good, regularly shaped tree.
Ulmus 'New Horizon' can eventually reach a height of 25 m, depending on the site and climate conditions.
Ulmus 'New Horizon' is среднерастущий and can eventually reach a height of 25 m, depending on the site and climate conditions.
The right time to plant Ulmus 'New Horizon' is during the dormancy period. In Western Europe, Ulmus 'New Horizon' with root balls can generally be planted from mid-November to late April, although this depends strongly on the climatic conditions and the species of tree.
