A slow growing shrub with an irregular, spreading growth habit. Rarely growing into a small tree with multiple stems. The crown is wider than it is high, a spread of circa 4 m is not an exception. Mature specimens have arching branches. The leaf is palmatifid to palmatisect and the lobes are very deeply cut. The five to seven (sometimes nine) lobes are long and pointed. The colour is dark wine-red and is retained all summer. The autumn colour is deep red to orange-red. On a dry site this colouring is less intense. 'Inaba-shidare' is one of the best cultivars of this large and shape-abundant group of Japanese maples. Strongly akin to the cultivar 'Garnet'. However, 'Garnet' gets more arching branches when maturing. Prefers partial shade.
