Small tree with a striking winter silhouette thanks to the fine branching pattern. In the winter, the grey colour of the bark is striking. The reverse ovoid to oval, densely haired leaves have a pointy top and are dark green on the top and greyish green underneath. They turn spectacular yellow and red tints in the autumn. The flowers are in large, loose, pendulous clusters. When in the bud, they are pink, but turn completely white when open. The warmer the weather, the whiter the colour of the flowers. Berries appear in the autumn and turn from a dark red colour to black. 'Robin Hill' produces very little fruit. The tree has a fine root system close to the surface. It places little demands on the soil, prefers slightly calcareous soil that is not too wet.
