A vigorous ornamental apple tree with an oval crown and a height of 6 m. The leaves are oval and of a fresh green colour. 'Golden Hornet' produces abundant flowers. In the bud they are dark purple-pink, turn light purple on opening and, once fully opened, turn white. The flowers are single. From late summer they are followed by many fruits that remain on the tree for a long time. They are approx. 2.5 cm in diameter and a deep yellow colour. Can be used in parks, public gardens and gardens. The tree makes heavy demands on the soil as regards moisture supply and fertility. Sensitive to sea wind. 'Golden Hornet' is an improved version of 'Wintergold' but is moderately sensitive to scab. Winter hardiness zone: 5
