Small tree with overhanging twigs and a broad, funnel-shaped crown growing to a height of 6 - 8 m. The green, ovoid to elongated leaves taper to a long point and are 6 - 12 cm long. The leaf edge is serrated, the autumn colour (orange) yellow to red. 'Accolade' is an early-flowering cultivar with flowers in hanging bunches. In April the light pink flowers, approx. 4 cm in size and semi-double, emerge from pink flower buds. It is used as a park tree, solitary and planted in wide stretches of greenery. Prefers soils capable of providing a good deal of moisture. Prefers a light and sunny site. It is reasonably wind resistant but cannot take sea winds. Winter hardiness zone: 6a
