Prunus serrulata 'Hokusai' as a young tree grows powerfully upwards, the crown becoming broader at a later stage. The tree is usually grafted low down and forms a broad vase-shaped crown. Adult specimens can attain a height of 6 - 8 m. The young leaves emerge bronze coloured but later turn dark green. The tree flowers in mid-May, producing semi-double pale pink flowers that turn almost white. Diameter of flowers 4 - 5 cm. Seldom produces fruit. It does not stand up to wet soil. 'Hokusai' is used in gardens, parks and open stretches of greenery. Winter hardiness zone: 6a
